41 days until first day of school…Are you prepared?.

41 days until students arrive….1st day of school… ADMINISTRATORS! Let’s Get Prepared!

In the next few weeks, I am going to give you some tips to have the best year ever!

You will be tasked to learn some new ideas, think outside the box, and break away from the norm.

Some administrators might view these tactics as elementary or trivial.  But each of these best practices are proven!

Now get ready to ….(as my grandmother would say) PASS ’em!

In order to improve your school culture, plant rows of Peas.  The peas in your garden are Passion, Priorities, and Planning.  Today we are going to talk about Passion.

“Passion, it lies in all of us, sleeping…waiting… and though unwanted…unbidden… it will stir… open its jaws and howl. It speaks to us… guides us… passion rules us all, and we obey. What other choice do we have? Passion is the source of our finest moments. ….Without passion we’d be truly dead.” – Joss Whedon, Screenwriter and Director

What does a passionate administrator look like? Is this the administrator that kisses the pig or gets a pie in the face?  I believe that a passionate administrator is a leader who gets involved in the lives of their students, teachers, and parents.  “Students (Parents and Teachers) don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.” Your passion in the lives of your students will change the school culture.  Be Involved in Your Students!  Where are You in Mornings, at Lunch, or in Afternoons?  Do you attend all extracurricular activities? You need to be where the students are.  I would sit down and eat lunch with my students.  This is an easy to get to know them and for these students to get to know me.

Tips

  • Get a camera or use your smartphone.  Take pictures of students and teachers during observations or while your monitoring the campus.  You will see students PERK UP for pictures.  Share these pictures with your webmaster.
  • Go to a classroom and teach a class. Whatever your content area was you still remember your favorite lesson. Go to a class and provide instruction. You will amaze your students and even your teachers. This is a good way to model instructional strategies and connect with students.

Remember to be PASSIONATE!
